Current topics for consultation include the Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT) which will apply to coal and iron ore projects from 1 July 2012.
On 24 March 2011, the Government accepted all recommendations of the Policy Transition Group (PTG), led by Resources Minister Martin Ferguson and Don Argus AC, relating to the new resource tax arrangements. The PTG recommendations form the basis of the draft MRRT legislation.
The draft Bill provides the legislative framework for the MRRT. The Explanatory Memorandum (EM) explains, in broad terms, how the MRRT will be implemented.
Interested parties are invited to comment on the paper.
